For Mumbai’s rapid development
Providing details of key decisions and schemes for Mumbai and its surrounding areas, Deputy Chief Minister Shinde said that residents of Sanjay Gandhi National Park will be provided alternative housing within a 5 km radius. A scheme has been announced to provide homes to the heirs of one lakh workers from closed textile mills. A new policy has been introduced to facilitate redevelopment of buildings stalled due to Funnel Zone and Defence Zone restrictions.
A massive 300-acre ‘Central Park’ will be developed on the Mahalakshmi Racecourse and Coastal Road land, and ‘Namo Gardens’ will be created in every municipal corporation. The 26-km Versova–Bhayander Coastal Road has also received approval from the Bombay High Court.
Pod taxis will be introduced across the entire MMR, including BKC. An underground tunnel from Reclamation to the New Airport via BKC is being planned, and Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports will be connected by metro. These projects will significantly reduce traffic congestion and make Mumbai more dynamic, assured the Deputy Chief Minister.
