Committee to be set up for use of solar energy in textile sector

Mumbai, July 26 : Uniform criteria should be fixed for providing financial assistance to new cooperative spinning mills under the Social Justice, Tribal Development, and Other Backward Welfare Departments. These departments should make additional provisions for the mills under their purview. A committee of the Textile and Energy Departments should be formed to resolve issues related to the use of solar energy in the textile sector, directed Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The instructions were given during a review meeting of the Textile Department held at Varsha residence under the chairmanship of CM Fadnavis. The meeting was attended by Textile Minister Sanjay Savkare, MLC Amrish Patel, Additional Chief Secretary of Finance Department O. P. Gupta, Principal Secretary to CM Ashwini Bhide, Principal Secretary of Textile Department Anshu Sinha, Textile Commissioner Sanjay Daine, Director of Sericulture Vinay Mun, Deputy Secretaries Mr. Pawar and Mrs. Kocharekar, among others.
CM Fadnavis stated that while extending the interest subsidy scheme on loans of ₹5,000 per spindle to cooperative spinning mills, modernization and grading should also be included. A report should be prepared regarding the reopening of defunct mills under the National Textile Corporation in the state, and proposals should be submitted to the central government based on that report.
Necessary amendments should be made to the Integrated and Sustainable Textile Policy 2023–28. A policy should also be framed regarding recovery of government dues from cooperative spinning mills and cooperative powerloom societies. Moreover, registration of all powerlooms in the state should be completed. Renovation and facility development should be immediately undertaken for the building used by the Sericulture Directorate in Pune, with a no-objection certificate to be obtained from Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board.
Key issues reviewed at the meeting included:
- Establishment of a new Maharashtra State Textile Development Corporation.
- Merger of the Textile Commissionerate and Sericulture Directorate.
- Policy for permitting sale of surplus land of cooperative spinning mills.
- New rehabilitation loan scheme and lease scheme for spinning mills.
- Revision of project cost from ₹80.90 crore to ₹118 crore.
- Permanent acquisition of land leased to Red Cross Society at Wai, Satara for district sericulture office.
