Maharashtra State GST revenue surges 12.6%; Department contributes nearly two-thirds of State tax kitty
The Maharashtra State GST Department recorded a robust revenue performance in the financial year 2025-26, with total collections from Goods and Services Tax (GST), Value Added Tax (VAT) and Professional Tax (PT) reaching Rs. 2,51,256 crore, registering a growth of 12.6 percent over the previous year's collection of Rs. 2,23,087 crore. In terms of GST revenue among States, Maharashtra has secured the top position in the country, with collections more than double that of the second-highest State. In addition, GST revenue in the State recorded a growth rate of 14.6 percent over FY 2024-25, reaching Rs. 1,86,991 crore. Reflecting the strength of the State's economy, the growth in GST revenue is one of the highest in the country and is almost double the all-India growth. Together, GST, VAT and PT contribute nearly 64 percent of Maharashtra's State Own Tax Revenue (SOTR), underlining the pivotal role of the State GST Department in strengthening the State's finances.
