Swami Ramanand Teerth’s Invaluable Contribution to Marathwada Liberation Struggle – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Unveiling of Swami Ramanand Teerth’s Statue and Kamal Talav by the Chief Minister
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nov 16: Swami Ramanand Teerth inspired patriotism among the youth during the Marathwada Liberation Struggle and, along with women and other freedom fighters, led efforts to free Marathwada from the oppressive rule of the Nizam. His contribution to the movement is invaluable, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The statue of Swami Ramanand Teerth at Kranti Chowk and the historic Kamal Talav, inaugurated online, were unveiled by Chief Minister Fadnavis. The event was attended by Backward Classes Welfare, Dairy Development and Non-Conventional Energy Minister Atul Save, MP Sandipan Bhumre, Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Bhagwat Karad, MLAs Sanjay Kenekar and Anuradha Chavan, Municipal Commissioner G. Shrikant, and family members of freedom fighters who contributed to the Marathwada Liberation Struggle.
Chief Minister Fadnavis said that Swami Ramanand Teerth led a disciplined and dedicated life. Like Swami Vivekananda, he awakened patriotism among the youth. After India gained independence, Marathwada took nearly 13 months to become free, as it was part of the Nizam’s estate. The atrocities committed by the Razakars had reached their peak, and a major struggle was undertaken against them. Swami Ramanand Teerth provided leadership in this struggle, igniting the flame of independent identity in Hyderabad and Marathwada, motivating many youth and women to participate. Then Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel responded to the call of these freedom fighters with military action, leading to Marathwada’s liberation on September 17, 1948—a day now celebrated annually as Marathwada Liberation Day. The unveiling of Swami Ramanand Teerth’s statue honors his pivotal contribution, said the Chief Minister. Sculptor Niranjan Madilgekar was felicitated by Chief Minister Fadnavis for his work on the statue.
The historic Kamal Talav was also inaugurated by Chief Minister Fadnavis, who noted that it has added value to the city’s tourist attractions. After the inauguration, the Chief Minister personally purchased a ticket to officially open Kamal Talav to the public.
