— Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Empowerment of Aspirational Talukas Underway

Mumbai, July 25 : In a major initiative aimed at empowering aspirational talukas in Gadchiroli district, the 'Livelihood Development Programme' is being implemented through the efforts of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The project includes 49 villages and has active participation from the Axis Bank Foundation. The programme officially began on January 12025, and has been allocated a budget of ₹20.34 crore for a period of three years. It is expected to holistically benefit 5,000 families.

The state government is prioritising improving the standard of living of local residents in Gadchiroli and creating employment opportunities. In support of this policy, the Axis Bank Foundation has partnered with the state to implement the Livelihood Development Programme. The key objectives of the initiative include promoting climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture, improving livelihoods, and enhancing the well-being of the community.

The programme focuses on multiple components such as agriculture-based livelihoods, natural resource management, non-farm livelihood interventions, collective entrepreneurship, health, and nutrition.

As of June 3020252,000 families have been registered under the scheme. Additionally, 66 farm ponds have been desilted to increase water retention capacity. In the pond-based farming system, fish are reared, poultry farming is integrated, and the same water is used for irrigating crops. This method boosts agricultural productivity and opens multiple income streams for rural households.

By 2027-28, the families participating in the programme are expected to double their income compared to their original earnings. It will also enhance agricultural productivity and expand livelihood opportunities. Through farmer groups, systems for collective purchasing and selling will be developed, while awareness drives on nutrition and health will lead to noticeable improvements in living standards.
