Citizens Urged to Join Civil Defence Force as Volunteers

Citizens Urged to Join Civil Defence Force as Volunteers

Mumbai, May 15: Citizens across the state are being encouraged to actively participate as volunteers in the Civil Defence Force. Special appeal is being made to retired police personnel from police families, police boys, other family members of police personnel, and ex-servicemen to enroll as Civil Defence volunteers in large numbers.

According to the Civil Defence Act of 1968, any Indian citizen who is at least 18 years old and has completed basic education is eligible to serve as a volunteer in the Civil Defence Force. The applicant must be an Indian national, possess a clean police verification record, and be physically and mentally fit.

Citizens are encouraged to register as Civil Defence volunteers within their societies, establishments, or local areas and undergo the necessary training. It is also advised that mock drills be organized in coordination with Civil Defence officers and staff in these areas.

Furthermore, citizens are urged to help enroll key professionals in their areas—such as doctors, engineers, and lawyers—into the Civil Defence Force and provide them with appropriate training. College students, society security guards, and general citizens are also being invited to participate as honorary volunteers in large numbers. This appeal has been made by the Civil Defence Department to strengthen community preparedness.
