Groundbreaking Ceremony of 2 MW Solar Project Conducted by the Chief Minister
Maharashtra Aims for 52% Energy Generation from Renewable Sources by 2030
Nagpur, March 9: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur is set to move towards achieving its net zero energy goal through the establishment of a solar energy project. This project will fulfill the institute’s energy requirements, stated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today. He further emphasized that by the year 2030, 52% of the state's total energy production will be sourced from renewable energy.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the 2 MW solar project and the foundation stone unveiling took place at IIM Nagpur, located in the MIHAN area, in the presence of CM Fadnavis. Minister of State for Agriculture Adv. Ashish Jaiswal, MLA Dr. Ashish Deshmukh, Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, and IIM Nagpur Director Dr. Bhimaraya Metri were also present at the event.
CM Fadnavis remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a goal for the nation to transition towards sustainable energy. As part of this vision, India is working towards generating energy from environmentally friendly and natural sources. In alignment with this national objective, IIM Nagpur has taken a step forward by initiating the solar energy project. With the foundation of this project laid, the institute is now progressing towards net zero energy consumption—wherein its energy needs will be met through self-generated renewable sources with minimal or zero carbon emissions.
The state government has also initiated efforts to achieve its energy transition goals by promoting power generation from non-conventional energy sources. CM Fadnavis expressed confidence that Maharashtra will successfully achieve the target of generating 52% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.
Additionally, CM Fadnavis inaugurated the foundation stone of the Golf Academy at the IIM Nagpur campus. He praised the initiative, stating that the academy has enhanced the institute’s infrastructure, making it of international standards.
