Crops Should Get Good Minimum Support Price - Chief Minister Eknath Shinde

            Mumbai Dt. 11 :- Following Narendra Modi's swearing-in as the Prime Minister for the third consecutive term, the hopes and expectations of farmers have risen even higher. In line with this, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasized that the Maharashtra state government is making decisions in the interest of farmers. He expressed hope that farmers will receive a good minimum support price (MSP) for their crops through the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP).

            Representatives from various states who attended today's meeting of the CACP applauded Chief Minister Shinde for his commitment to farmers. This meeting was organized to determine the minimum support price for rabi crops in western India.

            A meeting of representatives and farmers from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Diu and Daman, as well as Maharashtra, was held today at Sahyadri Guest House under the chairmanship of Vijay Pal Sharma, Chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP). The meeting was inaugurated by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Agriculture Minister Dhananjay Munde.

            Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Shinde emphasized that the interests of farmers are the highest priority. He mentioned that he has recently presented his views to the Prime Minister to secure good prices and markets for agricultural produce.

Will meet Union Agriculture Minister soon

            Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced plans to meet the Union Agriculture Minister soon to advocate for a good support price for agricultural products such as soybean, onion, and cotton, and to discuss other farmer-related issues. The state government is actively promoting the cultivation of millets on a large scale, and the Chief Minister emphasized that to encourage farmers, micro millets should also receive a minimum support price.

            The Chief Minister highlighted the shared ideology between the Center and the state, crediting Prime Minister Modi for the positive developments in agriculture over the past ten years. He noted that after being sworn in, Prime Minister Modi’s first action was to sign the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi file.

            The Maharashtra state government has also made significant decisions in favor of farmers, providing fifteen thousand crore rupees in compensation over the past year, Shinde added.

Plantation of Bamboo to Complement the Environment

            During the meeting, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his concerns over increasing pollution and rising temperatures. He stated, "As a farmer's son, I often engage with relevant experts on these issues. Whenever I visit villages, I make it a point to plant trees and cultivate various crops." He highlighted the state’s mission mode initiative, started last year, to cultivate bamboo, which benefits the environment. Maharashtra is leading the country in this effort, offering a subsidy of Rs. 7 lakh per hectare for bamboo cultivation and setting a target of one million hectares. "There are many species of bamboo with different benefits, and through our task force, we are taking all necessary steps to protect the environment for the future," he added.

            The Chief Minister also mentioned that Maharashtra is striving to contribute one trillion dollars to the country's five trillion dollar economy, with agriculture playing a major role in this effort.

            The Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP) - Rabi Season 2025-26 Central Agricultural Commission meeting on pricing policy was held at Sahyadri Guest House. The meeting was attended by Agriculture Minister Dhananjay Munde, MLA Bharat Gogawle, Chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices Vijay Pal Sharma, State Agricultural Value Commission Chairman Pasha Patel, Nanaji Deshmukh, Project Director of Krishi Sanjeevani Prakalp (Pokra) Parimal Singh, and members of the Central and State Agricultural Value Commission. Representatives from western India, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, and Daman, were also present.

            The CACP recommends minimum support prices (MSP) for various crops to the Central Government, which then fixes and announces these support prices at the national level. The prices announced by the Central Government apply to all states.
