Double-Decker Metro Flyover on Kamptee Road Enters Guinness Book of World Records

 

Nagpur, Sept 2: Maharashtra Metro (MahaMetro) has given Nagpur global recognition by creating world-class infrastructure in a short span of time. The double-decker flyover built on Kamptee Road has been officially registered in the Guinness Book of World Records. This achievement has established Nagpur as a city with outstanding infrastructure at the global level, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis while extending congratulations to MahaMetro officials.

 

At a special event held at Ramgiri, Guinness World Records’ India representative Swapnil Dongrikar presented the official certificate to MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar in the presence of Chief Minister Fadnavis.

 

The Kamptee Road double-decker viaduct is the world’s longest such flyover. Built on a single-column pillar for both metro and highway traffic, it stretches 5.637 km and stands as an excellent example of architectural and engineering brilliance. Guinness World Records recognized this engineering marvel, which uses advanced construction technology. Earlier, the 3.2 km double-decker flyover at Chhatrapati Nagar was also acknowledged at the global level. With this feat, Nagpur is now known not only as the “Orange City” but also as the “City of Infrastructure.”

 

For the construction, 1,650 tonnes of steel were used. This flyover integrates railway, highway, and metro transport facilities on the same corridor for the first time in the world, marking it as an engineering wonder. Experts from across the globe in architecture and civil engineering have been visiting Nagpur to study this one-of-a-kind project. “MahaMetro and Nagpur have become pioneers in building such double-decker flyovers,” stated MD Shravan Hardikar.

 

During the program, a documentary on the construction of India’s longest double-decker metro viaduct was screened. The flyover accommodates five metro stations—Gaddi Godam, Kadbi Chowk, Indora Chowk, Nari Road, and Automotive Chowk—built using state-of-the-art technology. The structure has four layers: the ground-level highway, the first deck for highway traffic, and the second deck for metro operations. This has significantly reduced traffic congestion on Kamptee Road.

 

The earlier flyover at Chhatrapati Chowk has also been featured in the Guinness World Records.

 

The event was attended by MahaMetro officials including Director Anilkumar Kokate, Project Director Rajeev Tyagi, Executive Director Naresh Gurbani, General Manager Yatin Rathod, Chief Project Manager N.V.P. Vidyasagar, Project Director Prakash Mudaliar, along with Guinness World Records representatives.
