Nutrition and Primary Healthcare Services in Remote Areas to be Provided
Through 38 New Anganwadi Centres
– Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare
Mumbai, May 23: Under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyay Maha Abhiyan, approval has been granted to establish 38 new Anganwadi centres in extremely remote areas. Earlier, 145 Anganwadi centres were approved, and construction of these has been completed. These centres will help provide nutrition and healthcare services to children and pregnant women in remote areas, informed Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare through a press release.
Various schemes are being implemented under this initiative for the holistic development of tribal communities. The population criteria have been relaxed for starting Anganwadis in remote areas, and centres will now be set up even in regions with a population of just 100. This will ensure that tribal communities have access to nutrition and basic healthcare services.
In the newly approved 38 Anganwadi centres under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyay Maha Abhiyan, one Anganwadi worker and one helper will be appointed in each centre. Funding for honorariums, administrative expenses, nutrition, rent, and uniforms will be provided jointly by the state and central governments. She also said that including the previously built 145 centres, a total of 183 Anganwadis are being set up across the districts of Gadchiroli, Nanded, Nashik, Palghar, Pune, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Satara, Thane, and Yavatmal.
