Tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on His Birth Anniversary

Mumbai, April 12: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the Directorate of Information and Public Relations will broadcast a documentary titled "Mahapurush Dr. Ambedkar" along with the film "Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar: The Untold Truth" on April 14, 2025. This celebration will include a tribute to Dr. Ambedkar.

            This year marks the 134th birth anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. As part of the celebrations, the Directorate will air the documentary "Mahapurush Dr. Ambedkar" at 11 AM and the film "Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar: The Untold Truth" at 1 PM. Additionally, the film will be broadcast on Doordarshan's Sahyadri channel at 1:30 PM.

The documentary "Mahapurush Dr. Ambedkar" will be available on social media platforms such as X, Facebook, and YouTube, while "Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar: The Untold Truth" will also be shared on X. Links to access these programs are provided below:

About the Documentary "Mahapurush Dr. Ambedkar"

The rare documentary "Mahapurush Dr. Ambedkar" includes dramatizations of significant events in Dr. Ambedkar's life and live footage. This 17-minute documentary was created in July 1968 by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations through Films Division. It features scenes of Dr. Ambedkar embracing Buddhism, his visit to Nepal, and close-up shots from his funeral procession at Dadar Chowpatty in Mumbai. The cinematography was done by Madhukar Khambekar, and the editing was by G.G. Patil. Directed by renowned actor and director Namdev Watkar under the Watkar Productions banner, the music was composed by Datta Dajekar. Veteran actor David Abraham narrated the documentary.

About the Film "Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar: The Untold Truth"

The film "Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar: The Untold Truth" is a joint production of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, and the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Government of Maharashtra.

As the first law minister of independent India and the architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's contributions in various fields are unparalleled. A man of immense intellect, Dr. Ambedkar dedicated his entire life to the welfare of society, focusing on the marginalized. He fought for education and social justice throughout his life, advocating the mantra "Educate, Organize, and Agitate." This film highlights the extraordinary achievements of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

The film is directed by Dr. Jabbar Patel, featuring actor Mammootty in the lead role of Dr. Ambedkar and Sonali Kulkarni as Ramabai Ambedkar. Other notable actors include Mohan Gokhale and Mrinal Kulkarni. The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) assisted in production, while the screenplay was written by Sony Taraporewala, Arun Sadh, and Daya Pawar. Research for the film was conducted by Dr. Y.D. Phadke, and the advisory role was filled by Shyam Benegal. Costumes were designed by Bhanu Athaiya, music was composed by Amar Haldi, and photography direction was handled by Ashok Mehta
