Government Takes Strong Stand on Safety of Working Women

Government Takes Strong Stand on Safety of Working Women

Action to Be Taken Against Institutions Failing to Implement POSH Law

Mumbai, May 16: In a significant move to ensure the safety and dignity of working women across the state, the Commissionerate of Women and Child Development has directed all government, semi-government, and private establishments to strictly implement the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, commonly known as the POSH Act. An important circular regarding the same has been issued by the Commissionerate.

According to the new directives, every institution employing 10 or more workers must constitute an Internal Committee (IC) to address complaints related to workplace sexual harassment. Additionally, registration of these committees on the Central Government’s SHE-Box portal has been made mandatory. Authorities have observed that several private establishments have either failed to constitute such committees or have not completed the required portal registration.

The government has taken the issue seriously following a recent case of sexual harassment and workplace harassment reported at a multinational company in Nashik. The incident highlighted the urgent need for stronger grievance redressal mechanisms to prevent such cases and ensure timely action.

The Women and Child Development Department has clarified that providing women with safe, respectful, and sensitive workplaces will now remain a key priority, and strict implementation of the POSH Act will be enforced across all sectors.
