Pune, January 17 : The Bajaj Pune Grand Tour 2026 will not remain confined to being just an international cycling competition, but will emerge as a lasting sporting and infrastructure legacy for future generations, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

He was speaking at the grand inauguration of the prestigious International Bajaj Pune Grand Tour and the welcome ceremony of international cyclists, held at JW Marriott Hotel, Pune.

On this occasion, Union Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol, State Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Minister of State for Social Justice Madhuri Misal, and Secretary General of the Cycling Federation of India, Dato Maninder Pal Singh, were present on the dais.

Describing Pune district as a unique confluence of history, culture, and modernity, Chief Minister Fadnavis said that every kilometre of the region tells stories of valour, tradition, and heritage. Pune, apart from being a cultural capital, is also a leading hub for technology, manufacturing, and information technology, while the natural beauty of the Western Ghats will add a distinctive dimension to the competition.

He expressed confidence that the event would soon become a prestigious annual fixture on the global sporting calendar, placing Pune district prominently on the international map of sports and tourism.

Stating that the Bajaj Pune Grand Tour 2026 marks the beginning of a route that will endure for centuries, the Chief Minister said that several ancillary initiatives would be undertaken alongside the event, providing tourists an opportunity to experience nature as well as visit the historic forts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Assuring full cooperation from the Government of Maharashtra, he said efforts would be made to ensure the competition becomes a milestone event in the history of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). He also appealed to all riders to compete in the true spirit of sportsmanship and contribute to the success of the event.
