Nagpur, Dec 9: The unveiling of the ‘Zebru’ mascot is an important initiative by the Transport Department for strengthening road safety. This mascot will make the road safety awareness campaign more effective in preventing accidents, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The ‘Zebru’ mascot was unveiled by Chief Minister Fadnavis at a ceremony organized in the Council Hall of the Ministers’ Chamber at Vidhan Bhavan, under the road safety awareness initiative of the Transport Department.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnayak, Public Works Minister Shivrendra Singh Raje Bhosale, Minister of State for Transport Madhuri Misal, Additional Chief Secretary (Transport) Sanjay Sethi, Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimnanwar and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Chief Minister Fadnavis said that due to increasing urbanization, the number of vehicles is rising rapidly. To prevent accidents, the State Government is creating awareness among citizens about traffic rules through the road safety campaign. The government aims to make citizens ‘traffic literate’ so that accidents do not occur at all. This campaign is a reflection of that commitment, and several measures are being implemented through various departments to prevent accidents.

He appealed to citizens to follow traffic rules and participate actively in the road safety campaign. He also urged people to adopt the principle ‘Road Safety is Life Safety.’

In his introductory remarks, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnayak said that the ‘Zebru’ mascot is a messenger of road safety. The road safety campaign will be carried out with the understanding that the first right on the road belongs to pedestrians. ‘Zebru’ will be taken to every corner of the State. The campaign will be implemented in such a way that Zebru becomes the living spirit of road safety. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has instructed the Urban Development Department to frame guidelines to remove encroachments on footpaths and to ensure that railings there are not removed. Accordingly, action will be taken by the concerned department.

During the event, the ‘Zebru’ mascot was unveiled, and dignitaries present were presented with mementos featuring the Zebru mascot. Officers of the Transport Department were also present at the program.
