Inspection of Mumbai–Pune Expressway “Missing Link” Project by the Chief Minister

Pune, July 12 – The “Missing Link” project on the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai–Pune Expressway is an engineering marvel. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said this project includes the country’s longest tunnel, and travel time between Pune and Mumbai will be reduced by half an hour.

The Chief Minister was speaking after inspecting the “Missing Link” project on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway. Also present were Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, MP Shrirang Barne, former MLA Bala Bhegade, Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department Manisha Mhaiskar, Pune Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Konkan Divisional Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi, Vice‑Chairman & Managing Director of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Anil Kumar Gaikwad, Pune District Collector Jitendra Duddi, Raigad District Collector Kishan Javale, CEO of Raigad Zilla Parishad Neha Bhosale, Additional Managing Director Manuj Jindal, Chief Engineer Rajesh Patil, and Superintending Engineer Rahul Vasaikar among others.

Chief Minister Fadnavis said that the “Missing Link” project on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway will reduce the distance between Mumbai–Pune, benefiting passengers. The steep ghat section on the highway will be bypassed, eliminating traffic bottlenecks caused by the ghat road. Once completed, this expressway will offer a smooth journey. The project includes a total of three tunnels — one of them is 9 km long and 23 m wide, making it the longest tunnel in the country, surpassing the record held by the Samruddhi Highway tunnel. An extremely tall bridge is also being constructed, with a height of 185 m, which will be the highest bridge ever built in the country. Chief Minister Fadnavis said this too is a record achievement.

The project by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation is being executed extremely well. He added that 94 per cent of the work has been completed and the remaining work will be finished soon. He praised the engineers and workers who are working under adverse conditions.

Deputy Chief Minister Shinde said the “Missing Link” project is being constructed using state‑of‑the‑art technology, and this project will be a game‑changer. Considering the atmospheric and air‑pressure conditions here, many engineers are working in very difficult situations. Once this project starts, travel between Mumbai–Pune will be reduced by half an hour, traffic problems in the ghat section will be resolved, and accidents will be avoided. This expressway project will save fuel and reduce pollution, and will boost development in the country and in Maharashtra, and will be reassuring for the general public of the state, he said.
