• NTPC plays a key role in launching the first Bone Marrow Transplant Centre at AIIMS Nagpur
Mumbai, June 2 :- In a significant healthcare initiative for the Vidarbha region, a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Unit will be set up at AIIMS Nagpur with financial support from NTPC under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund. This initiative, conceptualized by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, aims to provide treatment for patients suffering from sickle cell anemia and thalassemia locally, thereby reducing their dependency on treatment facilities in Mumbai.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between NTPC and AIIMS Nagpur for this purpose. Under the agreement, NTPC will provide CSR funds to support the infrastructure development and treatment of needy patients at the BMT unit. This facility is expected to particularly benefit children and residents of the Vidarbha region.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his gratitude to NTPC for their support in setting up the first BMT centre at AIIMS Nagpur. He emphasized that this unit would become a vital medical facility for people across Central India, especially for children, tribal communities, and those from rural areas. Highlighting the high prevalence of sickle cell disease and other genetic disorders in Central India, CM Fadnavis noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared the eradication of such diseases as a national mission.
He added that with NTPC stepping forward to fund the project, the necessary financial resources for setting up the BMT unit at AIIMS Nagpur have been secured, which will bring much-needed relief to underprivileged patients.
Details of Assistance :
The aid will cover the development of basic infrastructure for the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, along with costs associated with patient treatment and medication.
Project Highlights :
The BMT unit will be established at the MIHAN campus of AIIMS Nagpur. It will include infrastructure development, diagnostic testing for transplants, medicines, services of external specialists, and complete treatment coverage. As per NTPC’s CSR funding guidelines, the unit will display the NTPC logo and acknowledge the support provided under CSR.
NTPC has been implementing various CSR projects in the fields of healthcare, education, and social development for several years. Its collaboration with a government medical institution like AIIMS Nagpur is aimed at extending advanced medical services to the underprivileged sections of society.
AIIMS Nagpur is rapidly emerging as a centre of excellence in medical services and research. With the establishment of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, patients suffering from blood cancer and other serious diseases in Nagpur and the entire Vidarbha region will receive advanced treatment locally, without the need to travel to cities like Delhi or Mumbai.
