Rs. 25.44 Crore Grant Deposited in Bank Accounts of 560 Gaushalas
Online Distribution by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Mumbai, March 28: A grant of Rs. 25.44 crore under the Desi Cow Rearing Scheme has been deposited online in the bank accounts of 560 Gaushalas in the state by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
This grant covers three months—January, February, and March. Under the scheme, Rs. 50 per cow per day is provided for the care and maintenance of indigenous cows. In the first phase, Rs. 25.45 crore has been distributed to 560 Gaushalas in the state for the upkeep of 56,569 cows through the Maharashtra Goseva Commission.
Chief Minister Fadnavis congratulated the Maharashtra Goseva Commission for this initiative, stating that the conservation of indigenous cow breeds is essential for rural development. He expressed satisfaction that the Commission’s president, members, officers, and staff are working to ensure that more Gaushalas benefit from this scheme.
Animal Husbandry Minister Pankaja Munde also appreciated the work of the Commission, highlighting that the scheme promotes the conservation of indigenous cows. She stated that this initiative will help in the preservation and protection of these breeds.
Challenges and Purpose of the Scheme:
Indigenous cows have lower milk production capacity, making their maintenance commercially unviable. Additionally, non-productive and dry cows do not generate financial benefits for cattle owners, leading to their maintenance in Gaushalas. To support such Gaushalas financially, the Maharashtra Goseva Commission launched the Desi Cow Rearing Scheme, providing Rs. 50 per cow per day. So far, 560 Gaushalas have directly benefited from this scheme, said Shekhar Mundada, Chairman of the Maharashtra Goseva Commission.
At the online grant distribution event, several dignitaries, including Chairman Shekhar Mundada, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, and members of the Maharashtra Goseva Commission, were present.
