Cultural Affairs and IT Minister Ashish Shelar described the occasion as a golden moment celebrating Mumbai cricket’s rich legacy.
He stated that Mumbai has produced world-class cricketers, and this initiative appropriately honors their contributions. He highlighted Diana Edulji’s remarkable role in elevating women’s cricket despite challenges, and fondly remembered Dilip Sardesai as a “generation together” cricket legend.
He also praised Eknath Solkar’s agility and inspiring life, and termed Ravi Shastri a “Champion of Champions,” stating that naming a stand after him was truly fitting.
Shelar added that Mumbai cricketers have set numerous records at Wankhede Stadium, shaping global cricket, and that the partnerships and achievements of Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Ravi Shastri continue to inspire generations.
