Recalling his visits to Wakayama and Koyasan during his two tours to Japan, the Chief Minister noted that the unveiling of a statue of the architect of the Indian Constitution, B. R. Ambedkar, at Koyasan University symbolises the friendship between the two nations. In 2023, a team of sumo wrestlers visited Mumbai in the presence of Wakayama’s late Governor. Demonstrations of sumo and Indian wrestling were held at the Gateway of India, receiving an enthusiastic response from citizens. Currently, Japanese sumo wrestlers are training at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune. Such sports exchanges will help nurture world-class athletes in both countries, he said.
