Effective Use of AI Technology Should Be Made in Health Services

Mumbai, Dec 16: With the objective of making the state’s public health services stronger, faster and more people-centric, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed that artificial intelligence (AI) technology should be used effectively in the health sector.
He was speaking at a review meeting of the Public Health Department held at the official residence ‘Varsha’. During the meeting, the organisation Samagra made a detailed presentation on strengthening public health services. Public Health Minister Prakash Abitkar was present on the occasion.
Chief Minister Fadnavis stated that appropriate use of modern technology would enhance the quality of health services, ensure more accurate and timely treatment, and help effectively deliver healthcare facilities to citizens in rural and remote areas. He emphasised that in today’s digital era, digitisation of the health system and adoption of AI-based solutions are extremely necessary.
He also mentioned initiatives such as star rating of health institutions, review reports of health services, health helplines, training of health personnel, and regular review of service quality. These initiatives would further strengthen citizens’ trust in public health services, he said.
During the meeting, demands were placed regarding the ‘Aaple Gaav, Arogya Sampanna Gaav’ scheme, palliative care, treatment for sickle cell disease, simplification of the recruitment process for medical officers, enhancement of honorarium for medical officers, and expediting the regularisation of contractual employees under the National Health Mission. Additionally, officials highlighted the need to create new posts for AYUSH Director, Training Director, and in the nursing sector.
Responding positively to all these issues, Chief Minister Fadnavis assured that the state government would extend all necessary support to further strengthen health services in Maharashtra. He clarified that the government would focus on long-term improvements by ensuring coordination among human resources, infrastructure and technology in the health sector.
The meeting was attended by Secretary, Public Health Department Dr. Nipun Vinayak; Secretary E. Ravindran; Secretary, Medical Education Department Dheeraj Kumar; Chief Minister’s Secretary Shrikar Pardeshi; Health Services Commissioner Dr. Kadambari Balkawade; Director of Health Services Dr. Nitin Ambadekar; Samagra representative Gaurav Goyal; and senior officers from the Public Health and Medical Education Departments.
