State Government Stands Firmly with Flood-Affected People

State Government Stands Firmly with Flood-Affected People

– Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

All Relief Measures to Be Provided as During Drought; Priority to Supply of Essential Commodities
No Recovery from Disaster-Affected; Banks Receive Directives from Chief Minister

Mumbai, 30th [September]: The state government is firmly standing by the side of flood-affected people. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed after the cabinet meeting that the cabinet has decided to implement all relief measures and schemes for farmers and disaster-affected citizens, as is done during periods of scarcity. The Chief Minister also instructed banks to halt recovery of loans from affected farmers.

CM Fadnavis said that the farming community is currently facing difficulties. In view of this, clear instructions have been issued to banks to suspend recovery. In addition, affected families are being provided with wheat, rice, pulses, and other essential items. Beyond the criteria set by the central government, the state government will independently provide assistance for damages such as collapsed wells and land erosion. The damage assessment will be completed within the next two to three days, and a proposal will be sent to the central government next week. However, without waiting for central assistance, aid has already begun from the state government’s own fund. The amount from the center will later be received as reimbursement, the Chief Minister clarified.

Although there have been demands to declare a localized drought in the state, such a definition is not included in the disaster management regulations. Nevertheless, the cabinet has decided to implement all relief measures and schemes based on the criteria applicable during periods of scarcity, CM Devendra Fadnavis clarified.
