Wadhavan Port Project: Skill Development Programme to Prepare Local Youth for Employment Opportunities
– Minister Nitesh Rane
Mumbai, May 27 : A major port project is coming up at Wadhavan in Maharashtra, which is expected to generate large-scale employment. The coastal districts of the state will be the first to benefit from these opportunities. To ensure local youth are ready for the skilled jobs that will arise from the project, Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane has directed that a Skill Development Training Programme be formulated immediately.
A meeting was recently held at the Mantralaya to discuss the employment opportunities to be generated by the Wadhavan Port and the related training requirements. Minister Rane presided over the meeting. Dr. Dnyaneshwar Mulay, advisor to the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), attended the meeting via video conferencing.
Minister Rane emphasized the importance of acting swiftly, suggesting that awareness and training camps should be organized in the port-affected districts of Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. These camps will inform locals about job opportunities at the Wadhavan Port and the types of training needed to secure those jobs.
He further directed the NSDC to design a dedicated training programme tailored to the employment opportunities at the port. He proposed utilizing existing Skill Development Centre buildings in the state for this purpose to avoid delays due to infrastructure constraints. The Ports Department will provide all necessary support to ensure the timely start of these training programmes.
Minister Rane stressed that the Wadhavan Port will unlock significant employment potential and urged that the youth of Maharashtra, especially from the coastal regions, should be equipped to take full advantage of these opportunities through well-planned training initiatives.
