Deputy CM Ajit Pawar Reviews Situation in Baramati,
Indapur, Pune and Other Rain-hit Districts
Appeals to Citizens to Stay Safe; Directs Immediate Implementation of Relief Measures
Mumbai, May 26: "Monsoon has arrived in Mumbai and Maharashtra, and the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts. A red alert is in effect for Sindhudurg tomorrow, while Palghar is on yellow alert. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nashik, Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur. Heavy rainfall is also expected to continue in the ghat areas of Pune, Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur for a few more days," said Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
In this context, he has directed the concerned district administrations to remain alert and give top priority to ensuring public safety, as well as to rescue and relief operations. Immediate measures must be taken, and residents in rain-affected areas are advised to stay cautious, take shelter at safe locations, and remain in touch with local authorities while following their instructions.
Arriving in Baramati around midnight in view of the ongoing heavy rainfall in several districts, Deputy CM Pawar personally visited villages in Baramati and Indapur talukas of Pune district from early morning and reviewed the ground situation throughout the day. He was accompanied by Minority Development, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Dattatray Bharane, newly elected Director of Chhatrapati Cooperative Sugar Factory Prithviraj Jachak, Pune Collector Jitendra Dudi, local representatives, sarpanches, organization heads, activists, government officials, and villagers.
While touring the rural parts of Pune, Ajit Pawar also reviewed the situation across other districts through the State Disaster Control and Management Centre at Mantralaya. He held telephonic discussions with district collectors of the affected areas to assess the rainfall, dam conditions, and the progress of relief efforts. He has ordered immediate assessment (panchnamas) of damages to agriculture, crops, livestock, and homes.
He directed state and district-level officials to remain alert and work in coordination and cooperation to promptly carry out rescue and relief activities.
Deputy CM Pawar noted that suburban rail services in Mumbai were affected due to the rain. Harbour line services were suspended, and Central and Western railway services were delayed. The road from Mahad to the historic Raigad fort is closed due to flooding. In Pandharpur, three priests stranded in a riverside temple were safely rescued.
He appealed to citizens in rain-affected areas to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary. In case of waterlogging at home, they should move to safer location
