Gopinath Munde Farmers Accident Insurance Assistance Scheme Now Available Online Through MahaDBT Portal

- Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne

Mumbai, Dec 4: The benefits of the Gopinath Munde Farmers Accident Insurance Assistance Scheme will now be available entirely online through the MahaDBT portal, enabling immediate support to affected farmers. Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne said that the digital transition aims to provide quicker assistance to farmers facing accidental death or disability during agricultural activities. Previously, the scheme operated through offline applications, but the entire process has now been fully digitized.

Accidents resulting in death or disability among farmers occur frequently in the state due to various farming-related risks. To ensure timely financial assistance in such incidents, the state government has been implementing the scheme since 19 April 2023. Under the scheme, the family of a farmer who dies in an accident receives ₹2 lakh, while ₹1 lakh is granted in cases of permanent loss of one eye or one limb.

Earlier, beneficiaries or their legal heirs were required to submit detailed proposals and documents at the office of the Taluka Agriculture Officer. Errors in documents and delays in processing often slowed down disbursement of assistance. To address this, the government has decided to shift the entire application process to the MahaDBT online platform, said the Minister Bharne.

With the online system, accident-affected farmers or their families can apply from their homes without visiting government offices. The current status of the application can also be tracked on the portal. Once submitted, the application will directly reach the login of the respective Agriculture Department officials. Any errors in the documents will be communicated via SMS, allowing applicants to correct them online without multiple visits to government offices.

Proposals will be scrutinized by the Taluka Agriculture Office and approved by a committee chaired by the Tehsildar. After approval, the sanctioned financial assistance will be deposited directly into the applicant’s bank account via DBT. For the year 2025–26, the government has allocated ₹120 crore for the scheme, and so far, ₹88.19 crore has been deposited into the bank accounts of 4,359 farmer beneficiaries.

Minister Bharne stated that implementation of the scheme through the MahaDBT portal will ensure a faster, more transparent, and farmer-centric process.
