New Cooperative Law Must Balance Company Law and Current Cooperative Act
-Union Minister Nitin Gadkari
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized the need for a new law that balances the Company Act and the existing Cooperative Act. He reiterated that the cooperative movement, which began with the 1875 Supe uprising, needs to spread beyond states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Kerala.
He lauded the cooperative sector for uplifting economically weaker sections and contributing to economic inclusion, particularly in the dairy sector. Gadkari suggested that the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank should study the social and economic impact of cooperatives and use this knowledge to improve the lives of common people.
