A Grand Statue of Shivaji Maharaj Will Inspire Future Generations

Sindhudurgnagari, 11: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was a great warrior whose thoughts are inspirational to all. The Public Works Department has constructed a grand statue befitting Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy in record time, which will serve as a source of inspiration for future generations, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The unveiling and worship ceremony of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue, erected at Rajkot fort in Malvan, was conducted at the hands of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Guardian Minister Nitesh Rane, Public Works Minister Shivrendra Sinhraje Bhosale, MP Narayan Rane, MLC Niranjan Davkhare, MLAs Deepak Kesarkar, Ravindra Chavan, Nilesh Rane, District Collector Anil Patil, CEO Dr. Manik Dive, Acting Police Superintendent Krishikesh Rawale, and PWD Executive Engineer Kini were present.

The Chief Minister said that under the guidance of PWD Minister Shivrendraraje Bhosale, all departments worked swiftly to complete the project. Renowned sculptor Ram Sutar has created this magnificent statue in a short time. Institutions like IIT and J. J. School of Arts also made significant contributions to the statue’s construction. A detailed study of Konkan’s high winds and storms was done during the planning. Given its height, this is likely the tallest statue of Shivaji Maharaj in the country. Considering its grandeur, efforts will be made to develop the area around the statue to promote tourism. The Chief Minister emphasized that Konkan’s development has always been a priority.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that this land has been sanctified by the footsteps of Shivaji Maharaj. The grand statue here is a symbol of pride, self-respect, and valor, and will serve as a respectful monument for tourists and Shiv devotees.

Initially, the ceremony began with ‘Shiv Aarti’ by the dignitaries, followed by worship of a symbolic idol of Shivaji Maharaj. A grand firework display in vibrant colors was also held. Senior sculptor Anil Sutar and officials from the PWD were felicitated during the event.

About the Statue:

The statue was built at a cost of ₹31.75 crores by the Public Works Department. The work was completed by the company of senior sculptor Ram Sutar on an EPC basis. The sword-bearing statue stands 60 feet tall and is made entirely of bronze. A stainless steel framework has been used to support the statue, and high-grade M50 concrete and stainless steel bars were used for the pedestal. The concept and design were verified by IIT Mumbai.
